Competition details

Background

The Icaro Project is the first aerospace-related hackathon taking place in Forlì. The participating teams will have to come up with the best solution to the challenges proposed by the different companies.
This project is a hybrid event, merging physical phases with online ones. The hackathon will last 12 days, from the 3rd to the 14th of April 2024, starting with an online kick-off event and ending with a live award ceremony at the MAE event in Forlì on the 17th of April. 

Teams’ composition

Teams shall be composed of a minimum of 3 (three) and a maximum of 5 (five) participants. The event is open to 

  • last-years highschool students(*), 
  • bachelor’s and master’s degree students pursuing a BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng, or equivalent degree qualification,
  • PhD candidates, 
  • Freshly graduated students.

Applicants will register themselves to the competition and the teams will then l be formed by EUROAVIA Forlì-Bologna, to guarantee a proper mix of knowledge in each team. 

(*) high school students must be of legal age at the time of registration.

Categories and challenges

The challenges will be revealed on the 3rd of April, during the kick-off event.

The teams will have until the 4th of April, 9:00 CET, to communicate to the organisation team the priority list of challenges via the proper form.
In case this has not been done within the deadline, teams will be assigned randomly to one of the possible challenges.

The chosen/assigned challenge will be communicated by the organisation committee on the 4th of April, at 12:00 CET

Evaluation committee

The evaluation committee will be composed by appointed experts from each company as well as one member of EUROAVIA. It will be announced during the kick-off event of the competition.

Prizes 

The winning teams will have the chance to present their work on the 17th of March at the MAE (Moving towards AErospace) event . Further prizes will be announced during the presentation of the competition, on the 3rd of April.

Application rules 

Applications open on March 1st at 12:00 CET and will remain open until March 28th at 23:59 CET.

The applications are processed as first-come-first-served, taking also into account the level of studies (High school, BSc, MSc, PhD, graduated).
Once the application is submitted, the applicant will receive a confirmation email, which does not mean that their place in the competition is secured.

After the applications are processed, starting from the 29th of March, the selected participants will receive an email confirming their acceptance and further information on the team they are placed in. The teams shall send an email before the 31st of March with the name of the team and the chosen Team Leader. Team Leaders will be the one and only contact point with the Hackathon organization team.

The teams’ composition shall not change throughout the duration of the competition. Therefore, no team member substitution will be accepted.

An email will also be sent to the applicants on the waiting list informing them about their position in the same.

Confidentiality and Intellectual Property of the developments

The organizers will not take responsibility for any action made by a participant and infringements of the confidentiality of the projects presented in this competition.

Therefore, the participants are encouraged to take all the possible prevention measures to protect the information or the technical elements which can be subjected to Intellectual Property before taking part in the event.

The participants commit themselves to inform the organizers about their Intellectual Property rights which are eligible for the work developed in this competition.

The participants are not giving in its totality the rights that could arise from the ideas developed during the competition. However, they authorize to use parts of the development or the ideas for the dissemination of the event and the promotion of the candidates. Hence, this authorisation is done in order to help to the promotion of the competition, and it is a non-exclusive and non-limited time cession.

Any other matter related with the Intellectual Property rights will be regulated by the corresponding European regulation: Directive (EU) 2019/790 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on copyright and related rights in the Digital Single Market and amending Directives 96/9/EC and 2001/29/EC.

This authorization may be restricted if demanded by the company to be in accordance with the confidentiality of the project.
